Though being called “a heel” has a negative slant, being Italy’s heel (Puglia) is a positive plus plus plus! Our hub & spoke itinerary to Puglia started with three days in Rome for art and history. Then a road trip through the spine of Italy to Montecassino, the monastery that never gives in. Then to the backdoor of Pompeii, the city covered by ash and the city today. And finally to the gorgeous sapphire coast of Puglia on the Adriatic Sea with stays in Giovinazzo and Lecce.
