USA RV Travel Tips and Destination Reviews

NatureNikki here is so done with tents! RVing, on the other hand, allows us to see this beautiful country with the most important comforts of home (a bathroom and a kitchen). We are psyched to share our USA RV travel tips and destination reviews for adventurers in an RV or camper, boondocking or campsites, and remote day trips too in the tow vehicle or ATV/OHV and hiking boots.

First-Hand Experience is our basis for our USA RV travel tips and destination reviews

We only share RV travel tips and destination reviews that what we’ve experienced first hand: adventures, destinations, and travel tips in our RV are all from our own authentic, real life.

While this first hand experience sometimes falls under the category of abuse, we share our success and mistakes and lessons learned.

There’s that time we ripped open the siding on a juniper tree and that other time we manage to snag the canopy on a sign. We’ve had mice move-in and been on too many roads that we shouldn’t have been on.

We’ve seen more antelope than you can shake a stick at. The Scenic Byways we’ve driven sink into canyons that must has been cut by teams of Paul Bunyans. Traveling the Loneliest Hwy for the nth time, we saw a car and thought, “Lots of traffic today.”

How we RV…

Part-time RVing

We are part-time RVers, typically out for 3-10 nights. The stick-built house is home base. Home base is where we prepare from and recombobulate at when coming home dusty. We make this distinction because part-time USA RVing is different than being in your RV full-time. As part-time RVers we have extra space because we aren’t carrying everything we own. Most importantly, we are maximizing our time away from home as vacation rather than continuous living.

Our Rig

Currently, we have a Fifth-Wheel, but in the past we’ve also had a Bumper Pull and a Class C. We try to give USA RV travel tips and destination reviews with a range of rigs in mind. From the nose of the hauler to the back bumper of the tow vehicle, size does matter! As much as we want to get further away from it all, RVs have capacity parameters that must be respected. If not, there’s consequences like replacing tires more often or windows getting broken or chunks of cactus randomly stuck to the weather stripping.

Most importantly, when considering if an RV will fit in the budget, keep in mind that RVs are money pits. They are often more expensive per night than hotels or vacation rentals when you factor in the initial upfront cost and regular maintenance. But, an RV is your own space, your on-the-road alter ego, your snail shell that you creep into at night, cozy and thankful.

RV Boondocking

We like being way out in the boonies where we aren’t disturbing others and they aren’t disturbing us. Some call it dry camping, some call it dispersed camping, some call it boondocking. We travel to get way out there–no place is too quiet. We love the viewscapes of the desert and the coziness of the forest.
