The Trip of a Lifetime implies that the trip only comes along once in a lifetime. What a downer when you think of it. Just one trip?! And the stress of making that ONE trip perfect… no thank you!
The Trip of a Lifetime… “The TOAL” Sounds like “the toll” like a price to pay. And toll gates, such an inconvenience!
Our motto instead: A lifetime of trips… “ALOT” is much better.
Two More Trips That Were NOT the Trip of Lifetime
Going back to Germany, again.
“Why Germany again?” Family and friends asked. They were right to ask. We had just gone to Germany for our cruise on the Rhine with Viking.
Because we wanted to, like, A LOT.
CT’s prophecy in 2021 of returning to places we had already been was already coming true by 2022. Our first international trip was to Switzerland. Our second international trip, we boarded our Viking cruise in Switzerland and cruised to Germany. Now our third trip was going back to some of those beautiful places in Germany.
Like we say, “You will want to go back.” A lot.
CT has been to Germany many times, even to one of the stops on this trip’s itinerary. I wanted to go to Baden-Baden. He had already been there and considered it meh, but he took me anyway.
But that’s why you have many trips in your lifetime, to find places you like and want to come back to. Or to try again with the places you thought were meh.
In Baden-Baden, Germany, CT erased memories of before-NatureNikki. While NatureNikki, herself, upgraded one of the world’s exotic locations from, in my mind, a “castle in the sky” to a “castle made of stone.” Fantasy to reality.
Sure now, don’t you go forgettin’ about Wiss-CAN-sun, eh!
Land of Lambeau Leaps, cheese curds, beer brats, brandy old fashioneds, and introductions to old friends and family.
We made two trips to Wisconsin short before and shortly after Germany. One a bittersweet return. 2023 took its toll in terms of friends and family passing over the rainbow bridge. Unfortunately, not the bridge with the trolls under it.
If we learned one thing it is this: Don’t be paying The TOAL.
Fill your lifetime with trips, so when your time comes… you will have lived, a lot.

Tell me how much the authentic souvenir coo-coo clock cost you and how much of a deal you got on the silly plaster statue of Pisa’s tower. Vent about your fellow airplane passengers and clogged toilet at the hotel.
We who have been bitten by the travel bug are all fellow travelers on this little rock zipping around the sun.
